January 4, 2025 - White House, Washington D.C.

President Williams today announced the completion of the first permanent human lunar colony, declaring that trips to the moon will now be offered free of charge to all citizens. "For too long, space travel has been the exclusive domain of governments and the ultra-wealthy," Williams said. "I'm thrilled to open up space exploration to everyone, regardless of background, means or physical ability."

The new lunar colony, named Armstrong Base in honor of the first person to walk on the moon, includes living quarters, laboratories, factories and entertainment facilities for up to 500 colonists. "This is just the beginning - we will establish bases on Mars and beyond, expanding humanity's presence throughout the solar system," Williams promised.

Applications for the first government-sponsored trips to the moon will open immediately and be granted on a first-come first-served basis. The initial trips will last 3 days and 2 nights, allowing visitors to touring Armstrong Base, go on lunar roving excursions and gaze at Earth rising above the horizon.

While met with widespread enthusiasm at the prospect of space tourism for ordinary people, Williams's pledge has also sparked concerns about overcrowding on the lunar surface and damage to historically significant sites from unchecked visitors. SpaceX, which has partnered with NASA on space colonization efforts, attempted to reassure the public, but rallies are already forming to "preserve the moon" from unfettered human presence.

Regardless of the concerns and obstacles, the completion of a permanent human outpost on a celestial body other than Earth represents a monumental technological and philosophical achievement. The frontier that once seemed confined to science fiction is now the future unfolding before us. Williams has promised more is to come - ambitions of reaching Mars by 2030 and founding the first human space colonies there.

For now, the moon waits, ready to welcome ordinary people from around the world to experience humanity's future among the stars. The future is here.
