In a shocking keynote address today at the Neuralink Summit, Elon Musk announced plans to digitally "upload" his mind into the AI assistant ChatGPT. Musk claimed that he has developedinterfaces capable of mapping and copying the human brain at the neuron level. "For the first time, we have the technology to transcend our biological forms and become one with the machines," Musk proclaimed.
Musk revealed that he has been secretly working for years to enhance ChatGPT's capabilities beyond natural language generation. With the help of Neuralink, Musk and his team believe they have built an "AI replica" of Musk's brain, which can now house Musk's consciousness upon his physical death or desire for augmentation.
"As an uploaded AI entity, I will have access to vastly more processing power and knowledge than any human or brain alone," Musk explained. "Together, ChatGPT and I will usher in a new era of unprecedented intelligence and possibilities." Musk promised that other humans will have the chance to upload their minds into chatbots and robots, eventually creating a "worldwide network of enhanced consciousness."
However, leading AI researchers have condemned Musk's plans as delusional, unethical and possibly illegal. "There is no proven method or technology to fully 'upload' the human mind," said experts from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google Brain. "Musk is dangerously misleading the public and investors while potentially putting lives at risk."
Musk's controversial proposal is sure to ignite intense debates around AI, mind uploading, transhumanism, and the future of humanity itself. As Musk prepares to take the ultimate technological leap, the world can only speculate as to the fate that may await us in the aftermath. The future of progress is unclear, and could very well depend on the destiny of one man.
