April 20, Denver, CO: As over 60,000 marijuana enthusiasts descended upon Denver for the annual 4/20 celebrations, the Cannabis Cup Awards recognized the very best strains, edibles, concentrates and infused products. Denver Green Events, organizers of both 420 Fest and the Cannabis Cup, hailed this year's event as the most well-attended and successful in the events’ 15 year histories.
“More attendees than ever came from across the U.S. and around the globe to witness and participate in the world’s biggest cannabis party,” said Norml Colorado's co-founder and Denver Green Events VP of operations. A variety of events including live music stages, panels, comedy shows and film screenings spread across three venues. Conventions center walks turned into haze-filled corridors, lined with endless vendor booths displaying premium cannabis products.
The 2020 Cannabis Cup champions were crowned at a gala awards dinner held the evening prior to 420 Fest. California-based Humboldt Kush Club won Cannabis Cup's most prestigious honor, “Company of the Year,” in recognition of the company's exceptional quality and commitment to the craft. Top strains included Grease Monkey from Quantum Cannabis and Pink Lizzard from Ancient Roots. An edible brownie from Ace Valley Food Co. and vapes from Sage R&D beat out the fierce competition.
While enthusiasm runs high, legalization advocates once again called on lawmakers to remove criminal penalties on possession and sales of cannabis in order to address continuing inequities in the system. “We celebrate the progress that’s been made, but as we get more corporate ‘Green Capitalism’ and less social equity, the rally is getting bigger while missing its roots,” proclaimed one speaker at the Denver event. Yet dispensary lines remain long as culture and commerce combine for another hugely successful year.
With industry awards, sold out events, and record-breaking crowds, 4/20 ends in Denver with a fever pitch and the predictable promise of growth to come. Colorado solidified its status as the world's cannabis epicenter as tens of thousands return home, spreading experiences, seeds and records along their way.
